Huge medieval fortress. Owned by Elizabeth I's favourite, Robert Dudley, who converted it into a great showpiece mansion to impress the Queen. The gardens have recently been restored.

On Bank Holiday's main car park gets full. So park your car in the town centre and get a free shuttle bus to the castle! The Castle itself is nice, ruined after Civil War. Elizabethan garden was ok
